Daily Review: 9th of August - Monaco's potential keeper, TV5 goes to Barcelona, the new Saint in town

The Daily Review: 9th of August

Monaco go for a second keeper, Barca finalize Vermaelen deal, and who is the new Saint

AS MONACO REPORTEDLY WANT STEKELEENBURG

According to Dutch medias Ad.nl and Telegraaf AS Monaco are interested in Fulham's 31-year old GK Maarten Stekelenburg.

UPDATE: Stekelenburg has been confirmed to join last-year's Ligue 1 runners-up on a one-year long loan deal.
The French team will probably allow him to compete with last season's first choice goalkeeper Danijel Subašić (29), adopting the model made famous by Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, when he benched Casillas, bringing in Diego Lopez insted and which he will probably use at Chelsea this season, allowing Courtois and Cech, both world class keepers, to prove their worth for the starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

Stekelenburg is somewhat of a journeyman, having played for 4 teams in 4 different countries (Ajax, Roma, Fulham and now Monaco).

THOMAS VERMAELEN IS BARCA'S NEW CB

The Belgian giant has passed his medical and is set to sign a five-year contract on Sunday morning.

He visited Camp Nou today and posed for the traditional picture with the team's logo while also finding time to speak with the team's journalists, saying "it’s an honour to play for Barça".

THE NEW SAINT IN TOWN: FRASER FORSTER

Southampton and Celtic FC have agreed on a fee of around £10m for the English goalkeeper, reports BBC.

The Scotland champions had already turned down one offer from the Saints, however, they have apparently decided to sell their 26-year old goalie even despite qualifying for European football this season (you can read about this in yesterday's Daily Review).

The arrival of Forster is another change for Saints fans and footballers alike to cope with. This season, they have sold five players (Shaw to Man United, Lallana, Lovren and Lambert to Liverpool, and Chambers to Arsenal) and signed also five counting Forster (the others are Bertrand, defender, Tadic and Teider, midfielders, and the young Dutch Striker Graziano Pelle).

This transfer window has not suffered from a lack of quality goalkeeper signings, after Bravo and ter Stegen signing for Barcelona, Navas for their El Classico rivals from Madrid and Reina for FC Bayern.
